Case Study

The Great Cornish Food Festival

A feast of everything Cornish.  A showcase for everything our members can do and everything food lovers look for. This IS Cornwall Food & Drink writ large in Cornwall’s capital city.

The story

Here we do something that shows the collective impact of Cornish food and drink; something that one shop or one restaurant or one food producer could never undertake. The perfect job for a hub organisation that knows their stuff. And as anyone knows who’s ever tried to run something of this scale, it doesn’t come easy.
Brain meets brawn. Creativity meets organisation. And tireless energy meets flair. People love it. They keep coming back - all 40,000 of them.  So do our sponsors and so do our exhibitors and chefs and experts who provide a brilliant three days that people travel from afar to enjoy.

Having evolved this major annual food festival from an event that was in danger of folding to one that generates well over £1m for the Cornish economy AND manages to make ends meet financially, we know we’re doing something right.  But we like to keep things moving and improving. That’s why, after ten successful years of Cornwall Food & Drink Festival, this year it’s getting a makeover and a new name:  The Great Cornish Food Festival will take place from 26 – 28 September 2014 in its usual place on Truro’s Lemon Quay, but expect an even better three days than ever before.

“The festival has enjoyed ten successful years and grown to be incredibly valuable to Cornwall’s economy. There is no way this would have happened without Cornwall Food & Drink’s involvement – their professionalism, financial wisdom and attention to detail have turned it into one of the nation’s best loved food events - but we need to be continually looking forward and I wholeheartedly believe that the new name and look will take it through the next decade and beyond.”

Steve Whittingham, Fodder's Restaurant & Espresso Bar, Truro and founder of the festival
