CFD members scoop gold at South West Tourism Excellence Awards
Cornish tourism businesses stole the show in the South West Tourism Excellence Awards 2012-2013 (on 8 February 2013) with a string of top titles going in Cornwall’s favour. Across the 17 categories Cornish businesses racked up an impressive 10 Gold awards (two for CFD members!), 5 Silver, 9 Bronze and 3 Highly Commended, and to complete the remarkable feat the coveted Winner of Winners title was also won by a Cornish holiday park.
Duke of Cornwall’s Award now has wider appeal
An annual award which has promoted the teaching of traditional trades and skills in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly has been revamped for 2013. The Duke of Cornwall’s Award will now be for farm business diversification and will be presented at the Royal Cornwall Show in June. The award will be made to the farm business that is adjudged to have most successfully diversified its enterprise and the organisers are now seeking nominations.
New funding available to help businesses in Cornwall
A new funding scheme – The Rural Business Investment Scheme - has been introduced for rural businesses employing less than 10 people. This might present a window of opportunity not only to food producers and processors but also to hospitality businesses thinking of undertaking a development project that will benefit local farmers and food producers. Restaurants and similar businesses have been excluded from similar schemes in the past.
