The Cornish Food Box Company wins £10,000 advertising campaign

The Cornish Food Box Company is small food business based in Truro, run by sisters Lucy Jones and Victoria Amran, and was one of only 8 local businesses shortlisted in the West Briton Local Business Accelerator Competition. After a gruelling Dragon's Den style presentation to a panel of judges on Friday December 16, they were announced as the winners on January 13th.

Established just 12 months ago, The Cornish Food Box Company delivers boxes of fresh, seasonal, local food to homes, offices and holiday cottages. Working with more than 70 small Cornish farmers and producers, the business aims to make it as easy as possible for busy working families to support the rural economy by buying local food.

As well as receiving the substantial allocation of free advertising space, The Cornish Food Box Company will also receive top professional advice from local business mentors. In addition, Deborah Meaden will also become a mentor to one business picked from the hundreds of regional winners, providing invaluable business support throughout 2012 to drive their business forward.

“We started this business as a way of making it incredibly easy for local people to buy local food,” explained Victoria.

“There has been a massive growth in demand for locally produced, seasonal food over the last 5 years and here in Cornwall we have some of the best producers in the country. We wanted to give some of the small farmers and businesses a chance to grow their business at the same time as we develop ours.”

Local Business Accelerators is a groundbreaking national initiative that harnesses the power of local newspapers to give a much-needed boost to local economies. The nationwide campaign, which was launched in October by regional and local newspapers across the country, and backed by David Cameron and Dragon's Den star Deborah Meaden, sees 1,500 firms receive £15 million of free advertising to help boost their businesses in 2012.
