Cornwall and Isles of Scilly LEP Strategy Launched

The Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership has officially launched their strategy in a live webcast from the Pool Innovation Centre in Redruth, which sets out their strategic direction for the next 8 years.

On Thursday 28 June at 11am the strategy was launched via a live webcast with LEP Chairman Chris Pomfret.  This was followed by an hour long webchat with Chris and fellow LEP board member Simon Tregoning, who is chairman of Helston based Classic Cottages.

The Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) was launched in May 2011 and is one of 39 LEPs in England set up following the Coalition Government’s new approach to economic development.

The LEP is a joint public and private sector body that will replace some of the roles of the Southwest Regional Development Agency in Scilly and Cornwall.

Chris said: “The strategy has been a year in the making and we have spoken to around 250 local businesses individually and through the 15 road shows we took around Cornwall and the Isles of sCilly earlier this year.

“We received almost 100 responses to the draft strategy we published in May and have been very encouraged by the positive and constructive response from the business community. We want businesses to be in the driving seat to help us deliver this vision and that is why we are trying to reach as many as possible by launching it online.”

The strategy is focused around four main themes:

  • Business Growth
  • Skills
  • Knowledge
  • Environment

Priorities include inspiring businesses to reach their national and global potential; creating great careers; creating value out of knowledge and using the natural environment responsibily as a key economic asset.
